Vox Amici Vocal Ensemble / Gliwice was founded in 2022 on the initiative of graduates of the vocal and instrumental departments of the Ludomir Różycki State Music School I and II Degree in Gliwice, who, years after completing their studies, began to miss singing and decided to create something of their own.
The ensemble has no permanent seat, as its members live in various towns across Silesia. They are enthusiasts who, despite the distances between them, wish to meet in order to enjoy making music together and to perform an interesting, ambitious, and often little-known repertoire in Poland (primarily a cappella).
So far, Vox Amici has given a number of concerts in many churches in Upper Silesia, including at the 9th Toszek Organ Music Festival 2024, as well as at the State Music School I and II Degree in Gliwice.
Major achievements:
- 3rd Prize and the Audience Award for best ensemble performance at the 33rd Tychy Christmas Carol Evenings (2024),
- 2nd Prize at the 10th Czesław Prudel Choral Song Competition in Lyski,
- Grand Prix and Special Prize at the 10th National Early Music Choral Competition named after G. G. Gorczycki Ars Longa in Poznań (2024).
The artistic director of the ensemble is Krzysztof Hrycyszyn, a graduate of the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice.
Krzysztof Hrycyszyn – a graduate of the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, where he studied conducting under Prof. Krystyna Krzyżanowska- Łoboda. He is currently professionally associated with the Ludomir Różycki State Music School in Gliwice, working as a teacher of theoretical subjects and leading the school choir.
From 2015 to 2022, he was a long-standing member of the Polish National Youth Choir, and between 2016 and 2023 he performed as a chorister with the Silesian Opera. In 2023, he also collaborated with the National Forum of Music Choir. His artistic output includes numerous opera productions, a wide range of vocal-instrumental and oratorio works, as well as an extensive repertoire of Polish and international a cappella choral music – from Renaissance masterpieces to contemporary compositions.
Since 2019, he has served as conductor of the parish choir Laudemus Mariam in Gliwice, and since 2022 he has been the artistic supervisor of The Vox Amici Vocal Ensemble.
He considers his most important artistic achievements to include participation in two notable album recordings: Dance of Death with the National Forum of Music Choir (2023) and Edward Elgar’s oratorio The Dream of Gerontius with the Polish National Youth Choir (2023). Significant milestones in his artistic development also include his conducting diploma concert (2020), featuring British a cappella choral music, and winning the Grand Prix at the 10th National Ars Longa Competition in Poznań together with The Vox Amici Vocal Ensemble.
