The Canticum Novum Choir

The Cancum Novum choir is led by married couple Szymon and Barbara Cichoń. The group connues the tradion of the Cancum schola and choir founded in 2002 at the St. Stanislaus Parish in Suszec. They have been acve in their current form since 2017, and are under the patronage of the Municipal Cultural Center in Suszec.

They have given concerts at the following music fesvals: Music in the Old Abbey in Rudy Raciborskie (2023), Wisla Cantat (2023), Fesval of Organ and Chamber Music in Koniecpol (2023), Toszek Fesval of Organ and Chamber Music in Toszek (2022), Night of Choirs at Wawel Cathedral in Cracow (2022), Tyskie Wieczory Kolędowe in Tychy (2020) Fide et Amore in Żory (2019), Musica da Chiesa in Pszczyna (2019).

They have also held a series of sacred concerts in France, including in Lyon and Saint­Eenne (2018), and as members of the Internaonal Federaon of Pueri Cantores Choirs they have given concerts in Barcelona (2018), Florence (2022), Rome (2023) and the Vacan (2024).

Among the most important compeon achievements in recent years are:

Golden Band and 1st place in the Naonal Choral Compeon as part of the 15th Silesian Magnificat
Festival of Choral Song in Bytom (2022) and a special award for best conductor Szymon Cichoń
First place in the VII Internaonal Compeon of Carols and Pastorals in Rzeszów (2020)
GRAND PRIX in the XXII Provincial Fesval of songs God is born in Żory (2018)

Conductor - Szymon Cichoń

Organist, conductor and composer; graduate of the Diocesan Second Level Organist School in Gliwice and the Music Academy in Katowice in the conducng class of Prof. I. Melson (diploma with disncon). Long­me chorister of Pueri Cantores Silesienses in Zabrze (2000­2013). From 2007 to 2017, conductor of the Cantores don Bosco choir at the Salesian Public School Complex in Zabrze. For a year, he served as the second conductor of the Choir  of the University of Economics in Katowice (2015­2016). Since 2017, he has been creang a new quality of Cancum Novum.

He received the award for best conductor at the 11th and 13th Naonal Review of Church Choirs of Penitenal and Passion Song ­ Zory (2015, 2018), the XXVIII Tyskie Evenings of Carols (2019) and the Naonal Choral Compeon within the framework of the 15th Silesian Fesval of Choral Song Magnificat in Bytom (2022).

The main area of his composional work is sacred music. He has arrangements of the Mass cycle, church songs, carols and religious works for a cappella choir, choir accompanied by organ and choir accompanied by orchestra. He also has works for children’s choir.

His works and arrangements have been awarded at naonal choral compeons: Stabat Mater (XIII Naonal Review of Church Choirs of Penitenal and Passion Song ­ Zory 2018) and Gore gwiazda Jezusowi (XXVIII Naonal Myślenicki Fesval of Choral Song Carols and Pastorals).

His composions Fide et Amore for mixed choir (2019) and O orzchis ecclesia for mixed choir and organ (2020) received honorable menons at the 4th and 5th edions of the Internaonal Composer Compeon at the Fide et Amore Festival of Religious Creavity in Zory.

Since 2021 he has been a member of the Associaon of Polish Church Musicians and the Archdiocesan Sacred Music Commission in Katowice. He serves as organist at the parish of St. Stanislaus the Bishop and Martyr in Zory.
